How much does it cost to build a gas station, what costs should be incurred in the beginning?

 

Building a gas station, both under your own brand and as part of a franchise network, is a costly investment. The average cost of building a petrol station can range from PLN 2 to 3 million, the largest gas stations (which may include the construction of a pavilion with a size of several hundred square meters, as well as a dozen or so fuel dispensers, an extensive shelter and lighting, a car wash, parking infrastructure and places to rest in outside) costs up to PLN 6 million. Construction and equipment costs are closely related to the materials and equipment that we want to use during construction and subsequent use.
A gas station usually consists of elements such as:
      1. Gas station building
        Another name used is a gas station pavilion. There is a sales and cash desk in the station pavilion. The sales room is a place where the products sold by the station are displayed (stores at gas stations are classified as Convenience store), often there is also a designated part of the space for catering services – BISTRO and the place where the ATM is located. There are seats in the Bistro as well as all equipment for preparing food and hot drinks. In addition, the station should be equipped with toilets for customers and staff, cold rooms if there is a catering part, warehouses, break rooms and offices.
      2. Wiata
        The shelter is a roof over the fuel dispensers and sometimes also over a commercial pavilion. The shelter protects against rain, sun and also serves as an advertisement because the shelter has pylons with the name of the station and complementary services.
      3. Dystrybutory paliwa
        Another name for dispensers is liquid fuel dispensers. The prices of fuel dispensers are strictly dependent on the functionality of the dispensers – there are single or multi-product, single and double-sided dispensers on the market, as well as fuel dispensers with an increased pouring speed. Examples of companies that manufacture fuel dispensers are GILBARCO and DRESSER WAYNE.
      4. Liquid fuel tanks
        Underground or ground tanks for gasoline, oil and gas. Apart from the invisible tanks, the station also has all the necessary technical and safety installations.
      5. Price pylon
        The price pylon is the first element of the gas station that customers pay attention to. It is usually a vertical advertising element on which, apart from the station’s logo, there is information about the current fuel prices as well as texts informing about the station’s opening hours and icons symbolizing additional services such as WC, WASH, RESTAURANT, PARKING or icons symbolizing supported payments, e.g. VISA, MAESTRO. The prices of advertising pylons usually range from 40,000 to even 80,000 PLN. In addition to pylons at the gas station, there may be other large-size advertisements as well as additional graphic elements such as greetings, advertising letters – both illuminated and unlit, and many other elements. Appropriate labeling of the gas station makes it possible to distinguish the gas station in the minds of drivers.
      6. Parking spaces and their surroundings
        At each gas station there should be a parking space where customers can park their car. There may be benches and tables next to the parking lot – these are relatively cheap elements of equipment that contribute to the positive reception of the station.
      7. Additional equipment and washes
        Self-service car washes and automatic car washes are being built more and more often at petrol stations. In addition to car washes, you can find vacuum cleaners and compressors in parkings at the stations.
